Lovevery isn't a generic toy brand that added a Montessori label to its packaging. The company built its whole catalog around age-staged, research-backed play, and The Block Set is one of its two flagship items sold as a standalone purchase (alongside the Play Gym, which won a Parents' Choice Gold Award, and the Play Kits subscription program, named one of Time magazine's best inventions the same year). This is the toy Lovevery's own product page points to when it says its individual items are sold directly on Amazon, no subscription required, which is exactly why it's the pick for Best for Building Play in our roundup of the best Lovevery toys sold on Amazon.
The set itself is 70 solid wood pieces across 18 colors and 18 different shapes and tools, all FSC-certified sustainably harvested wood with water-based finishes. That includes 15 solid wood building blocks and cylinders, 18 building planks, 9 geometric shapes plus 2 arches, 4 wooden figures, 6 threadable beads with a lacing cord, and a set of wheels and axles. Amazon's own product details list the set for children 12 to 48 months, and Lovevery's bullet copy extends that to roughly 18 months through 4-plus years, with an included activity guide walking through more than 20 staged activities that scale in complexity as a child grows. The wooden storage box isn't just packaging either: its lid works as a shape sorter and ramp divider, and the wheels and axles let the whole box convert into a simple pull car, with a cotton drawstring bag included for on-the-go play.
This is the pick for a parent who wants one substantial, open-ended building toy rather than a themed playset with a single use, and who's comfortable paying a premium price for solid wood construction meant to last through several developmental stages instead of one. If your child is closer to walking age and you want something Lovevery-made but smaller in scope, the brand's own Music Set covers a similar age range with real instruments instead.
The Honest Take
What We Like and What We Don't
What we like
- Solid, smoothly finished wood that feels genuinely durable, several buyers specifically call out the build quality as worth the investment
- Grows with the child rather than aging out fast: reviewers describe it working for a baby under a year stacking the bigger pieces, all the way through a 5-year-old building and role-playing with it
- The wooden storage box doubles as a toy itself, converting into a pull car and working as a shape sorter, not just packaging
- Includes a cotton drawstring bag, so cleanup doesn't require squeezing every piece back into the wooden box each time
- No chemical or paint smell reported out of the box, and buyers note the colors hold up without flaking or coming off
What holds it back
- Premium price for what is, at its core, a block set, buyers who like it say it earns that price over time, but it's a real up-front cost
- The shape-sorting portion feels sparse to at least one buyer, only 9 shapes in a box with room for more
- A few individual shapes fit snugly enough that even an adult can find them fiddly to seat correctly
- Officially rated for 12 months and up, so in a mixed-age household the smaller threading pieces need to stay away from a baby who hasn't hit that mark yet
Is This For You?
Who Should (and Shouldn't) Buy This
Get it if…
you want one substantial, open-ended wooden building set that can genuinely stretch from early toddlerhood into preschool, you're comfortable with a premium price for solid wood construction, and you specifically want a toy that supports open-ended play over a themed, single-use playset.
Skip it if…
you're shopping for a baby under 12 months as their only toy, the smaller threading pieces aren't appropriate for that age yet, or you're working with a tight budget and mainly want a basic set of stacking blocks rather than a full staged-activity system.
The verdict
Real buyer feedback backs up Lovevery's own pitch here: this earns repeat, long-term play rather than sitting untouched after the novelty wears off, and the storage box pulling double duty as a toy is a detail multiple reviewers specifically called out as unexpected value. The one legitimate knock is that the shape-sorter portion feels lighter than the rest of the set. If your child is younger and building isn't the main goal, Lovevery's own Music Set is worth a look instead, and if you already own several Lovevery pieces, the Play Shelf is the organizational piece built to display them Montessori-style.
What Real Buyers Say
“Best block set ever. VERY versatile - its a shape sorter, block container, easily transformed into a mobile transport car, or even used as part of the build. We've used this set in so many ways, not just in the traditional builder sense. Only block set you'll ever need to buy. Wish I had this earlier!”

“My kid loved these blocks. Good quality and fun colors and shapes!”

“Quality is great and it feels very well made! My only complaint is that one of the sets, the assorted shapes one, feels incomplete as there's only 9 figures so my baby finishes it in a minute and the box is huge, it would fit a lot more shapes but All the other blocks won't work through the lid so it feels like a missed opportunity here... also the traingles are hard to fit even for an adult... but at least the set is cute and most importantly not toxic.”

“I got this product for my niece for Christmas and she loves it! She is seven months which is below the recommended age limit so for now she uses the bigger blocks and loves to stack them and knock them down. Her mom appreciates that this is a product that she can have for a really long time and will grow with her and her changing interests. The blocks seem to be made of good quality wood. I had the same product with a child that I nannied for several years and he continued to use this product up until about age 5. If you are looking for a toy that will keep your kids entertained for years to come, I highly recommend this product!”

“Continually impressed by the quality and design of Lovevery's products. We had the mat and a friend said that we should get these. I was initially skeptical of all the pieces, but after reading the very helpful instructions/guide they include with the set, I'm totally sold. Our daughter is on the younger end, but it very clearly will grow with her, which is great given the cost. It looks great, which is nice since it's in the middle of our living room. The box is also a toy, which is really cool and our daughter loves drumming on it and putting her stuffed animals in it. It includes a bag, so if you don't want to squeeze everything back into the box every time, you can just toss the blocks in the bag and be done.”

“We are always looking for ideas to inspire and stimulate our daughter, who is two and a half years old, and this toy fully met our expectations and was immediately very well received by our little one. Its great strength is that it strongly stimulates a child's imagination and creativity. We really appreciated the versatility of the box, which can easily be turned into a wagon with wheels, along with the other pieces like the lid and rods. The cloth bag for gathering the pieces is also very useful, along with an instruction sheet full of ideas for things to build or activities to do with the different pieces. Unlike other toys, these wooden pieces captured the curiosity of us parents too, not just our daughter. (Translated from an Italian-language review.)”

Frequently Asked Questions
What age is the Lovevery Block Set actually good for?
Amazon's own product details list it for children 12 to 48 months, and Lovevery's packaging copy extends that range to roughly 18 months through 4-plus years. Real buyer reviews back that up on both ends, with reports of babies under a year stacking the bigger pieces and kids around 5 still building and role-playing with the set.
Is the Block Set part of the Lovevery Play Kits subscription?
No. It's sold as its own standalone item directly on Amazon, separate from Lovevery's staged Play Kits subscription boxes that ship every 2 to 3 months, though it's designed by the same team and covers a similar age range. Our guide to the best Lovevery toys on Amazon covers both the subscription and the standalone items sold on their own.
Does the storage box actually turn into a toy, or is that just marketing?
It's a real feature, not just copy. The wooden box's lid works as a shape sorter, and a separate set of wheels and axles lets the whole box convert into a simple pull car. More than one buyer specifically called this out as a surprise favorite part of the set.
Is this set safe for a younger sibling to play with too?
Lovevery lists a 12-month minimum age on the product itself, and the set includes smaller threading pieces that aren't appropriate for a baby younger than that without close supervision. In a mixed-age household, plan to keep the smaller pieces out of reach until the youngest child hits that age.
Why does this cost more than a basic set of wooden blocks?
You're paying for a larger, more varied piece count (70 pieces across 18 shapes and tools), FSC-certified sustainably harvested wood with water-based finishes, an included staged activity guide, and the convertible storage box itself, not just a bin of matching blocks. Reviewers who call it worth the price tend to point to how long it keeps getting used rather than any single feature.
