Hasbro Gaming Monopoly: Star Wars Return of The Jedi Board Game for 2-6 Players, Inspired by Return of The Jedi Movie, Game for Families and Kids Ages 8+ (Amazon Exclusive)

4.8 · 513 reviews

This Amazon Exclusive Monopoly edition trades Boardwalk and Park Place for Tatooine, Dagobah, Endor, and the second Death Star, letting Star Wars fans relive the climax of the original trilogy while they build up their own rebel empire. Six detailed character tokens represent Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and Wicket, each paired with its own special Character Power that can turn the tide of a game. It keeps the Monopoly rules families already know, just wrapped in Return of the Jedi locations, Galactic Credits, and Rebel Alliance versus Galactic Empire card decks, which makes it an easy pick for a family game night or a gift for the Star Wars collector who already has the classic set.

About Hasbro Gaming Monopoly: Star Wars Return of The Jedi Board Game for 2-6 Players, Inspired by Return of The Jedi Movie, Game for Families and Kids Ages 8+ (Amazon Exclusive)

Monopoly: Star Wars Return of the Jedi Edition is Hasbro's licensed retelling of Monopoly through the lens of the 1983 film, sold as an Amazon Exclusive. Instead of Reading Railroad or Ventnor Avenue, the board is covered in locations pulled straight from the movie, and the six character tokens carry real detail rather than being generic pawns, something more than one reviewer specifically called out as a step up from the plastic or cardboard pieces that ship with several newer licensed Monopoly editions.

Gameplay follows the same core loop as any modern Monopoly release: move around the board, buy up locations, and collect Galactic Credits from opponents who land on your properties. Speeder Bikes and X-wings take the place of houses and hotels for boosting rent, while the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire card decks add random events in place of Chance and Community Chest. The twist is each character token's Character Power, unlocked with a roll of the special Rebel Alliance die, which gives that player a one-time or situational edge over the table.

It is best suited to households that already enjoy Monopoly and want a version with more theme to talk about at the table, and to Star Wars fans and collectors who like adding well-made licensed editions to a shelf. Families new to Monopoly will find the rules identical to the classic game, so there is nothing extra to learn beyond reading the Character Power cards.

The Honest Take

What We Like and What We Don't

What we like

  • Well-made metal character tokens that reviewers say feel closer to classic Monopoly pieces than the plastic or cardboard used in some newer licensed editions
  • Real Return of the Jedi references built into the board, cards, tokens, and currency, not just a reskinned box
  • Rated highly from over 500 verified buyers, with the vast majority landing at five stars
  • Uses the Monopoly rules families already know, so there's no new rulebook to learn
  • Works well as a gift for Star Wars collectors as much as it does for family game night

What holds it back

  • A few buyers said the character tokens can be hard to tell apart at a glance, specifically calling out Luke and Han as easy to confuse mid-game
  • Like most modern licensed Monopoly editions, this uses a streamlined last-player-standing win condition rather than the open-ended property building of classic Monopoly
  • As with any Monopoly edition, games can run long, so it's better suited to an evening of game night than a short filler game

Is This For You?

Who Should (and Shouldn't) Buy This

Get it if…

Get it if you're shopping for a Star Wars fan or collector who already enjoys Monopoly and would appreciate a licensed edition with real film references and solid metal tokens rather than a cheaper reskin, or if you want a family game night option with a theme kids and adults can both get excited about.

Skip it if…

Skip it if the recipient doesn't already enjoy Monopoly's rules and pacing, since this edition doesn't change the core gameplay, or if you're looking for a game that plays in well under an hour, since it runs on the same timeline as any standard Monopoly game.

The verdict

For a Star Wars household, this is one of the more satisfying licensed Monopoly editions on the market right now, mainly because the metal tokens and film-accurate locations make it feel like a real collector's item rather than a quick cash-in. It won't convert someone who dislikes Monopoly's core mechanics, and the token designs could use a bit more visual contrast, but as a gift for a Return of the Jedi fan who already owns a few board games, it delivers.

What Real Buyers Say

5.0

As my son is a member of the Star Wars 501st Legion, this is the perfect gift for him and his friends. I bought one for him and a few extras to give to his friends for Christmas presents. I was impressed by the quality of the metal character pieces. Everyone seems to be either going to plastic or cardboard with the newer board games. This was very much like the nostalgic board game that I grew up with in a galaxy far, far away.

Great family game for Star Wars fans! Makes a great gift and easy to take along with you.

4.0

Great board and idea. My only issue are the character pieces are hard to distinguish, e.g. Luke and Han.
